MUSIC WITH MERVIN TOUSSAiNT

Mervin Toussaint creates soundscapes of soulful saxophone to support his collaborators, Tyree Jennings, Carl Trunk and Olu Ojo of CCW.  Mervin follows the creative vision of Tyree, Carl and Olu to find a wonderland for the soul.

Mervin Toussaint is an active saxophonist, keyboardist, music educator, composer, and band leader in the Philadelphia area.

As a saxophonist, Toussaint is frequently sought after for his ability to fit into a variety of styles including jazz, rnb, hip hop, neo-soul, indie rock, and different styles of music from the West-Indies. Regardless of the situation, Mervin aims to imbue the music with a unique voice while paying homage to the greats that came before him. Toussaint is also active in the gospel scene, playing keyboard and saxophone in various churches.

Mervin has also performed with a wide array of poets, singers, rappers, dancers and spoken word artists. You can often find him playing at different venues in Philadelphia, including SOUTH Jazz Kitchen, Chris’s Jazz Cafe, Dahlak Paradise, The Free Library, and Paris Bistro. Toussaint leads his own group, playing original music that engages the mind, heart, and soul.

Since 2016, Mervin has shared his knowledge and experience as a private instructor, giving lessons in saxophone, piano, theory, and ear training. In the summer of 2018, he worked as a teaching assistant for the Kimmel Center/UArts pre-college program for musicians age 12-18, where he ran ensembles and gave lessons in basic musicianship skills and improvisation. Toussaint currently teaches with the Clef Club of Philadelphia.
