J. Douglas Tan (b. 1985) is driven, vigorous, and exuberant about his mark-making and layering technique. His work is mostly mixed media on paper or board, incorporating multiple methods of material application into each individual composition, from house paints to wax crayon. Once layered, he frequently works back into compositions with the sharp ntips of drawing implements to scrape fresh drawn lines into them. Tan lives in Berwyn. PA.

Tan's work is in the public collections of Broadcom Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) and the McGovern Institute  at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA), as well as a number of private collections in New York City.
