Creatures Comfort:
Group Show
September 23 - November 16
Humans have used the figure, human and animal, to express themselves in some of the oldest pieces of artwork in the historical record. Within ancient mediums such as cave paintings, hieroglyphs, and pottery, creatures are often represented to commemorate events, identify communities, and pray for a fruitful future of fertility or harvest. Today, cameras capture creatures objectively in a hyper-realistic way, taking only a snapshot of a moment. In Creatures Comfort, curator and teaching artist Em Downes selected works from eight participating artists from the Center of Creative Works that experiment with multiple figures, scale, pattern, chaos, and different ways of feeling a sense of community within ourselves and with each other.
