Clyde Henry: Tigers Blue Jays Trees / Jungles Branches / Green Leaves
April 2, 2022
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia presents Tigers Blue Jays Trees / Jungles Branches / Green Leaves: New Work by Clyde Henry. In this selection of work on paper and canvas, Henry captures the energetic vitality of creatures large and small through a combination of vigorously dense mark and gentle detail. Sweeping together a wide range of cultural references – from Garfield to Henri Rousseau – Henry’s animals move fluidly between archetypal beast and rapidly scrawled comic, communicating something equal parts goofy and hauntingly elemental. With a distinctively gestural mark-making process that vibrates with a physical intensity, his work examines the mediation between movement and stillness, wildness and calm, manifesting through creatures both real and imaginary.
