JUDY BARNETT

In her meticulously rendered drawings, Judy Barnett (b. 1940) depicts imagery from her collection of found source material that ranges from botanical specimen illustration to cigarette advertisements from the 1970s. Her process involves multiple phases of addition and erasure, creating a weathered, worn, palimpsest-like surface on the page from which her spidery lines and densely marked passages of color jump forth.

Barnett’s work has been selected for a number of exhibitions around Philadelphia, including High Tide Gallery in Kensington. In Spring 2018 she collaborated with Felt + Fat ceramics to design and glaze a series of plates and cups. In 2019 Barnett was featured in wordshapes, an exhibition at the Woodmere Museum curated by artist Mariel Capanna.

Barnett lives in Narberth, PA.
